Using Social Media to Promote My Facebook Community

Are you interested in music? Are you listening to the same songs over and over? Are you looking to broaden your music library? Do you enjoy making playlists? Do you need a new playlist to work-out to? Then, I’ve got the perfect Facebook Group for you. It’s called “Trading Tunes: A Place to Share Playlists.” This community was started in October 2021, and since then, it has grown to almost 200 members.

What I Did

This Facebook Group was designed to connect people who all have a similar interest: music. The goal is for people to come together to share music they have discovered, talk about an artist they love, and to share playlists they have created with the rest of the community. Music brings everyone together.

I want to attract lovers of music. I am looking for — People who have a subscription to Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, etc. People who enjoy waking up early on Friday mornings to check the #NewMusicFriday. People who create playlists for every mood their in, every day of the week, for cleaning the house, taking road trips, and for doing homework. This group is composed of music lovers, playlist creators and entertainers/musicians. My mission is to target them all through social media.

In order to attract new members to the group, I created a brand new Instagram page, @trading.tunes, and posted a six-part Instagram Story. I shared the new Instagram page to my personal Instagram account. Because this is a new Instagram account, I knew that the audience would be small. However, with the use of hashtags, and through the following I already have on my personal account, I am anticipating an increase in viewership.

Why I Did It

When it comes to Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, I really only feel comfortable using Instagram. I don’t think Snapchat is the best platform for marketing, promotion and not where I feel like my target audience is hanging out. I also feel like TikTok would not be the place for me to look for members for this specific group. Additionally, I felt like the graphics that I created do an excellent job at promoting the Trading Tunes Facebook Group, as well as letting people know what to expect within the group, and allowing them to engage with the post with a question box and a survey.

Based on a Facebook post I made on my personal account, I received a lot of positive responses and feedback. Because of this, I knew that some of my friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances would be interested in joining my Facebook Group. I then took to Twitter to do the same. The last platform that I had yet to try was Instagram, which you can see above. The reason I promoted this Facebook Group on all three platforms is because I wanted to get this group in front of as many people as possible, as I have different people following me on each platform.

How It Went

This Facebook Group has grown by 90 members this week. Through social sharing on my own Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as sharing this group in numerous other (similar and relevant) Facebook Groups, the amount of members that I have been able to collect has continued to see growth. I am hoping that with the vertical stories I posted to Instagram, I will continue to see membership requests throughout the upcoming days.
